Watu Umpu
Watu Umpu adalah sebuah batu besar yang terletak di Lingko Umpu, Desa Watu Umpu, Kecamatan Welak, Kabupaten Manggarai Barat, Flores, NTT. Watu Umpu berada tidak jauh dari perkampungan. Watu Umpu merupakan bongkahan batu yang berukuran besar. Batu ini menyerupai wajah manusia.
Menurut cerita warga setempat bahwa dahulu Watu Umpu adalah manusia. Watu Umpu sebagai adik dan Poco Kuwus sebagai kakak. Kedua batu tersebut bersaudara. Sang Adik berselingkuh dengan istri sang Kakak maka terkutuklah sang adik. Perbuatan sang Adik tidak sesuai dengan norma adat-istiadat. Akibat dari perbuatannya maka sang Adik terkutuk menjadi Batu. Maka terjadilah Watu Umpu.
Watu Umpu
Watu Umpu is a large rock located in Lingko Umpu, Watu Umpu Village, Welak
District, West Manggarai Regency, Flores, NTT. Watu Umpu is not far from the
village. Watu Umpu is a large boulder. This stone resembles a human face.
According to local residents,
Watu Umpu was once a human. Watu Umpu as younger brother and Poco Kuwus as
older brother. The two stones are brothers. The younger brother has an affair
with the older brother's wife, so the younger brother is cursed. The younger
brother's actions are not in accordance with traditional norms. As a result of
his actions, his younger brother was cursed to become a stone. So Watu Umpu
happened.
Legenda Watu Umpu
Pada suatu malam, saat padi mulai menguning, datanglah sepasang
suami istri ke pondok Nenek itu. Lalu Nenek bertanya, kalian berasal dari mana?
Mereka menjawab, "kami berasal dari Kuwus." Sang nenek lanjut bertanya, “apa
yang terjadi di Kuwus sehingga kalian datang kemari. Sang suami menjawab, saya diusir oleh Sang Kakak, karena saya bersetubuh dengan istrinya. Hubungan kami dipergoki Sang Kakak. Kami diusir dari sana. Itulah sebabnya kami pergi meninggalkan Kuwus. entah pergi ke mana, tidak tahu arah tujuannya. Dalam perjalanan, mereka selalu menengok ke belakang ke arah Sang Kakak sambil bertanya kepada Sang Kakak. Kak!, Apakah kami
harus tinggal di sini? Sang Kakak menjawab, tidak, kalian jalan terus. Sambil
berjalan merekapun menengok ke arah Sang Kakak sambil menanyakan hal yang sama, Kakak apakah kami harus tinggal di sini? Sang Kakak masih dapat melihat dan
mendengar suara mereka, diapun berkata sedikit lagi ke arah sana. Perjalanan
merekapun berlanjut. Tidak lama kemudian, mereka menengok ke belakang, Sang Kakak
tidak kelihatan dan tidak menyahut lagi panggilan mereka. Karena suara mereka tidak kedengaran lagi oleh Sang Kakak, maka mereka memutuskan untuk berpondok di situ. Sejak saat itulah kami memutuskan untuk
tinggal di wilayah tersebut. Di tempat itulah mereka tinggal. Nama tempat itu adalah Lingko Umpu.
Lingko artinya kebun dan Umpu adalah nama sebuah lingko. Di tempat itu, mereka bertemu dengan nenek seorang pemilik kebun dan mereka meminta agar nenek pemilik kebun pulang ke rumahnya dan mereka menawarkan diri agar mereka menjaga kebun
tersebut. Pemilik kebunpun pulang. Tempat itu berubah menjadi batu, maka terjadilah Watu Umpu. .

came to Grandma's hut. Then grandmother asked, where do you come from? They
answered, "we come from Kuwus." The grandmother continued to ask,
"What happened in Kuwus that made you come here. The husband answered, my
brother kicked me out because I had sex with his wife. Our brother discovered
our relationship. We were thrown out of there. That's why we left Kuwus. don't
know where to go, don't know the destination. On the way, they always looked
back at their older brother and asked him questions. Sis!, Do we have to stay
here? The older brother answered, no, you go on. As they walked, they looked at
their older brother and asked the same question, Big Brother, do we have to
stay here? The older brother could still see and hear their voices, he said a
little more in that direction. Their journey continues. Not long after, they
looked back, the older brother was nowhere to be seen and did not answer their
calls any more. Because their older brother could no longer hear their voices,
they decided to stay there. Since then we decided to live in the area. That's
where they live. The name of the place is Lingko Umpu.
Lingko means garden and Umpu is the name of a lingko. At that place, they
met the grandmother of a garden owner and they asked the grandmother of the
garden owner to come home and they offered to look after the garden. The garden
owner went home. That place turned into stone, so Watu Umpu occurred.
